Why tubular PE/PA/PE bags
Compression bags for quilts and blankets are tubular vacuum bags: made from tubular film with a back seal, sealed at both ends, and suited to medium and large sizes on double-chamber or continuous vacuum machines. The usual structure is PE/PA/PE. The nylon core gives puncture and impact resistance, and the PE layers on both sides seal the bag.
That nylon core makes a real difference. A 7-layer PE/PA/PE co-extruded film tested by Zhejiang Fangyuan Test Group in 2026 reached a dart impact result above 1,500 g, against a requirement of 80 g.
Thickness by use
|
Thin and summer quilts, short-term storage |
70–90 μm |
Low cost; suits light items that are not compressed for long |
|
Standard and winter quilts, home storage |
100–120 μm |
The most common choice, balancing strength, cost and evacuation |
|
Down and thick quilts, long-term compression |
120–150 μm |
Strong rebound force, so the bag must resist rubbing and folding |
|
E-commerce shipping, repeated use, industrial compression |
150–180 μm |
Better resistance to handling and crushing |
|
Heavy-duty long-term warehousing |
180–200 μm and above |
Mainly industrial; rarely needed for home use |

Thicker is not always better
Going one step up in thickness buys durability, but a bag that is too thick makes evacuation and sealing harder. Match the gauge to how heavy the item is, how strongly it springs back and how long it will stay compressed. Down quilts are the demanding case: their rebound keeps pulling against the bag, which is why they sit in the 120–150 μm range.
Where compression bags fail
- Back seal: poor overlap, film tracking off line, uneven sealing temperature or thickness variation at the seal.
- Bag face: punctures from handling or crushing in transport.
- Seal root: tearing where the product presses against the seal or the seal margin is too narrow.
Our guide to why vacuum bags leak covers each of these in more detail.

What to tell us
- The item: summer quilt, winter quilt, down quilt, blanket or garments.
- Bag size, or the folded size of the item.
- Use: home storage, retail, e-commerce shipping or warehousing, and for how long.
- Your vacuum machine.
- Expected quantity.
Bag sizes are made to order to fit the folded item and your packing line.
With this we can recommend a thickness and prepare samples.
